Meaning of Education

According to Jashodhara Purkayastha (2015), education is:

1. a life - long process

2. an integrated development

3. a preservation of our cultures which from one generation to another

4. a way of bringing changes in the behavior of everyone

5. a process of bringing out the latent talent within individuals because it can improving one’s capabilities, capacities and performances

6. the art of reasoning and analyzing

7. a process of nurturing our personality

As a summary, Education is the process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment and preparing oneself or others for real life situation.

Aims and Ideals of Education

The aim of education is to foster natural human psychological growth and development for personal maturity of moral consciousness. It also aim for the complete actualization of human nature and the application of theory to turn into practice.

On the other hand, the the finest ideal of education according to Ovide Decroly is to strive that the generation that follows it may be able to live and enjoy more beauty and more happiness; it is to reduce the causes of misunderstanding, stupid prejudices, unnecessary suffering, useless conflicts. This is the ideal of education. Without it the very purpose of man's existence vanish. If there were not the child to bring up, protect, to teach, and to transform into the man of tomorrow, the man of today would be meaningless and could disappear. The child is the future. We shape him for the future."
