Grasping for the Wind Response Paper
It was interesting to see the trend throughout watching these videos that in early art history, human life had meaning. Now, when viewing 20th century art it is a stark contrast. Human life has no meaning; we are all living in a world with a disconnected “god.” My main question is: how did this all happen? How did we move to this chaos? The theme seems to be those few who stood up and spoke out were the ones to spark the change and rebellion. These men such as Voltaire had confidence in what they spoke about, and people took to his and others beliefs. This trend seemed to start a domino effect. When watching these episodes I thought back to Francis Schaeffer’s videos where he challenges the viewer’s saying he wonders what would happen if someone stood up with confidence and with a bible in his/her hand. Scripture is clear on what happens when man turns their back on God. I believe throughout history mankind is the product of that. These videos prove that; movement into utter chaos. The thinkers and artists seemed to have a mindset of rebellion and this rebellion was against Christianity and the church. I sit and watch these videos thinking, it makes sense. It makes sense as to why man is in the state we are in now. All the chaos makes sense. Darwin is another example of a man making a bold stand against Christianity and the church. I, again, think back to Francis Schaeffer’s point where he asked, “Where was this church when these false ideas were being presented to society? Why was the church not speaking out against this?” These...
