Assignment #4

Lets look at “In Cold Blood” from a Criminal Justice standpoint. The Clutter family murders took place in the late 1959 in a small town of Holcomb Kansas, which traumatized the entire neighborhood. In search of the criminals, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation did a great job of hunting down the criminals, although they did not have all the advanced technology available to them to track down criminals like they do today. For example, when the neighbors burned most of the evidence from the crime scene at Clutters house, which made It even harder for the KBI to track down the criminal, yet they still managed to come to the conclusion that more than one person was present at the crime scene, because they found “footprints, the dusty tracking of shoes with diamond-patterned soled” from the photographs taken at the scene of crime.

However, they have left behind plenty of other evidence such as “the same type of knot, a half hitch, was used” to bound all four members of Clutter’s family, which indicated that it was done by one person. Also a shotgun was used to kill all four victims and the execution of all four victims were identical, so it specified that it was a crime of more than one man. Also, it is common sense if a person knows that his family members are at risk or they might get killed, he/she will resist and fight till the very last moment, but in the case of the Clutter murders, there were no sign of resistance from the victims, as they were cooperating...
