Evolution of Al-Qaeda

Abstract

This research paper analyzes the evolution of Al-Qaeda over the years. These days the issue of terrorism is one of the most disturbing issues many national governments have to deal with. In fact, at the present moment this is the global problem that requires an immediate solution since the spread of terrorism brings chaos and panic among civil population and can even undermines social stability and the economies of all countries affected by terrorism. When you ask someone, anyone to name a terrorist or an organization; you can be assured eight out of ten times they would say Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda. From the key power players that have been the backbone of the organization, to the events that have occurred at the hand of this notorious terrorist organization. This paper discusses how Al-Qaeda, also known as “The Base”, the Islamic Army, or the World Islamic Front for Jihad against Jews and Crusaders was established in the late 1980 to support military activities of Islamic warriors all over the world. Its foundation is a result of the Afghan war against the Soviet Union. The group rose up from the sands of the middle east and has evolved greatly to become a threat not only to the United States but many other countries, people, and the way we live their lives on a daily basis.

As with all organizations and cultures they have roots from where they first started. One of the most feared and notorious terrorist organizations in the world is Al-Qaeda. This research paper will analyze how Al-Qaeda has evolved over the last sixteen years. The paper will look at the history and leaders of Al-Qaeda and how that affected the evolution of the terrorist organization. Lastly, the paper will show the goals of Al-Qaeda and where they are now as terrorist organization.
