Importance of Nutrition

Most people think that exercise is the most important thing for staying fit or losing weight; however, nutrition is truly the most important part. Nutrition is something that often slips peoples’ minds. Frequently people become stressed or even depressed because they exercise and still cannot lose weight, or in some cases people cannot gain weight when they are trying; this could be the case for bodybuilders. Therefore, the biggest factor in controlling a persons’ weight is their diet.

Now when it comes to diets, there are numerous different types that people can use to help with weight loss or weight gain. I have personally experienced this with weight lifting. I was trying and trying to gain weight and put on size. I thought if I spent hours in the gym and pushed myself every day, I could put on the weight I was seeking, but I could never get the results with my current diet. Later after doing more research and seeking advice from others, I had discovered I was not eating enough to gain the results I wanted. This goes both ways, some people that are trying to lose weight can spend hours in the gym exercising, but then when they go home and eat junk food, they are essentially cancelling out what they just did at the gym. Some people can eat whatever they want, but most people can’t do this and achieve the results they want. Weight control all comes down to a persons’ caloric intake.

With regards to caloric intake; if you are consuming more calories than you are burning throughout the day, your body will store those extra calories as an alternate energy source (fat). Most people think that exercise burns loads of calories, but it actually burns fewer calories than people think. Exercise such as jogging or swimming for thirty minutes may burn around 350 calories.
