Global Warming

Generally, the term global warming refers to the increase temperature of the earth’s atmosphere due to several factors, such as effects of the sun, volcanoes and aerosols. But scientists have discovered that the main major behind global warming was the increase of greenhouse gases. Though naturally, greenhouse gases coexisted in the atmosphere which helped in maintaining the the earth temperature by preventing heat from escaping the atmosphere. However, the increase of the greenhouse gases resulted in the increase of heat trapped in the atmosphere.

Many scientists considered that global warming was due to man-made causes rather than natural since human activities such as burning fossil fuels, and deforestation have raised the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere beyond any natural causes. Since the most important factor of climate change would be the production of CO2 due to it’s higher rate of absorption of heat than other greenhouse gases. Since human activity is mainly responsible for the large increase of CO2 where the more the CO2 in the atmosphere, the warmer it would be.

Certain gases in the atmosphere would trap energy from the sun, this results in the rise of temperature on the earth’s surface, such gases are referred to as the greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases impact on the atmosphere vary on their atmospheric lifetime and and their global warming potential. For instance, Carbon Dioxide has an atmospheric life of 50-200 years and effects the atmosphere for a long period of time, unlike Methane which has an atmospheric life of 12 years that is much shorter. Although Methane lifetime is incredibly short compared to Carbon dioxide, it has a much influential warming effect than does carbon dioxide.

Trapping particular gases in the atmosphere led to the rise in temperature in the Earth surface, giving rise to the greenhouse effect. The process similarly works like a most greenhouses, in which they are mainly built to trap...
