I do graphic design because it’s my way of playing god. I get to create something from almost nothing, and get paid for it. This seems like it’s too easy to be a career. Sure deadlines can be super tight and you may not always like what you do, but does your client always know that? As long as they are satisfied you can be satisfied.

I got started doing graphic design in high school when I took a short “Computer Graphic Arts” class. Then I started doing graphics for myself and other friends when someone recognized my work as suggested I go to the school he graduated from.

Getting started is probably the hardest part for me. If something isn’t sitting right with me I’ll ask a few people to give their opinions and work around their views. It’s hard to please everyone with a single piece so most of the time you just got to go with what you feel looks best, from the “gut” if you will. It’s hard to say what general theme I go with… If we’re talking about school projects, then I usually go with automotive type themes. But you can’t be biased because in your career you won’t always get projects you want to do. If you do drum project all through school and then Mattel approaches you and wants to give you 10 grand to design the next Barbie doll, your toast.

Currently, I think my work has defiantly improved. My image composition used to look terrible, but after being taught the correct way of things my imaging looks a lot cleaner and realistic. I am also trying to develop my artistic side, as I am no fine artist. I think having the ability to look at something and draw and exact replica is a tremendous skill and can help you in your work immensely.
