MOSCOW 2015
Abstract.
Sanctions exist since the ancient Greeks and nowadays are one of the most popular tools in international policy and in foreign affairs. They were invented and adopted by a lot of international institutions to help them in their mandates beyond their traditional general use. The sanctions are not always "smart". There is a long history about it. In this paper my aim was to assess the efficiency of that important political tool of pressure. This thesis provides empirical evidence on the economic sanctions phenomenon. I will present the most illustrative cases to prove the ineffectiveness of such political mechanism.
Key words: Comprehensive sanctions, smart sanctions, effectiveness, embargoes, travel bans, asset’s freezes, regime change, economic impact, demographic consequences.
