Introduction

A PSYCHOSOCIAL ASSESSMENT IN JUVENILE DELINQUENCY SETTING

A psychosocial assessment in juvenile setting identifies the spectrum of issues that the client’s the client’s family and immediate community of support face with the specific course of their behavior. This assessment explores the client’s self concept and clarifies the client goals and hopes for the future, and places the client’s coping strategies in the client’s cultural and historical content.

In teaching of helping environment a facilitator almost always have that one client that sticks in the back of their mind. That one client or students that when you leave your agency you can’t help but wonder what were they thinking when they did this action today or did they just can’t seem to understand their thought process of the decision they make. Currently I am carrying out my field experience at the Department in Columbia South Carolina. Although I often find myself thinking about some of the clients that come through my supervisor’s office one client in particular has touched my area in my heart. In this paper I will examine and interpret this client’s thought process based from the interviews and his initial psychosocial assessment when he first entered the facility.

Client Identification

The client I am referencing to for confidentially purposes will call Lil G from this point on. Lil G is an African American 18 year old male from Maple Road, South Carolina. Lil G is one of the juveniles on my individual case load that I have worked with on a week to week basis since the first week of November. Lil G has been in and out of the facility since he was twelve but his last psychological assessment was conducted on July 20, 2009 for his latest charges.
