The French Revolution also called the revolution of 1789, led to a lot of important changes in France and other regions around the world. A number of causes led to the French Revolution such as political, social and economic causes. These causes led to Napoleons reign etc. and was a significant turning point in world history.

King Louis XIV appointed all civil officials, military officers and was ruled by the divine right. He made and enforced laws, after Louis XIV became king of France the economic conditions of France became weak. He levied taxes and spent the people’s money as he saw fit. Louis controlled the expression of thought by a censorship of speech and press. France had three estates the clergy, nobility, and commoners as in the balance of power this theory is the idea that national security is when military capabilities are distributed so one sate is able to dominate the other states. In 1783 Callone who was the next person chosen by the king for finances, due to his policy Frances debt increased over a few years taxes on all the classes first, second and third estates before it was dismissed by the king. King Louis XIV taxed the poor 10% out of all the estates the third estate governed more taxes but was the poorest due to the justice of peace which was when the poor collected taxes from people who owned land in the parish. This lead to the economic causes. (Doc 2)

In 1789, the social condition of France was miserable. Louis XIV left the throne bankrupt which had the civilians help fund the cost of the war. People who were left with nothing to live on were called peasants.
