Personnel Planning and Recruiting

In any business there is a strategy to planning and forecasting your personnel needs. A business is only as good as the people they employ. There are a few obstacles an employer have to overcome before they start the selection process. First, they must figure out what positions they need to fill and whether they want to fill it internally or externally. Once they decide then they can move on to the next phase of the process.

The first step of the planning process would be to build a pool of candidates of external applicants; by accepting applications from interested parties. Once applicaations are filled out you have to weed out the right candidates by doing background checks, one-on-one interviews and drug testing.

Another option would be to promote from within the company. In order to determine which current employees are qualified or trainable for the projected openings; an employer must know how to mentor and coach their employee to the next level. When promoting from within you don’t have to worry about background checks or testing because it should already be in their files. Once an employer analysis his in house candidates to see if there will be enough to fill all the positions available, they can then move on to outside candidates.

It’s real important for companies to promote from within because it helps with employee relations. It lets employee’s know that they have a future with the company, and there’s room to grow from within. When an employer starts to hire from outside the company; there are a few things that should be taken into consideration, such as:

 Determine what jobs you need to fill and what skills you’re looking for.

 Write a job description along with skill requirements

 Figure out what salary will be offered

 Consider different avenues to advertise about the positions you have available (employment agency, newspaper, etc.)
