Executive Summary
This is a proposal to design a residential micro grid whose generation source is a solar panel
which stores the energy in the battery during the day and utilizes the same energy for house
hold loads based on the environmental conditions which are sensed by the LDR thereby
reducing the wastage of power. These loads are controlled by a relay whose input signals are
given by Atmega8 microcontroller which processes the analog inputs taken by the LDR and
also the power consumed by the loads is measured by the CT whose analog outputs are
processed by the Atmega8 and displayed on the LCD. As a result the house owner can control
the loads based on the environmental conditions and also manually control the loads based on
the power consumption displayed on the LCD by giving manual commands from his PC which
is interfaced to the Atmega8 by the Max232 module which helps in UART communication
between the microcontroller and PC.
The unique features of this design is that we can interface the metering system to the micro
controller and control loads using LDR and PC. The only limitation presently is that we cannot
control the load from a remote distance .ie wireless. But this can be resolved in no time. This
design is viable as I have already made a prototype of it and tested it successfully.
As we can see that the energy prices are increasing in the recent past there is a high demand
for solar power based products especially in places like California. It would be a wise step to
manufacture these grid modules as there would be a high demand from local residents and
communities. So this would be an ideal time to expand our business to make the best out of the
opportunity available.
I have made an estimate of the amount of money required to manufacture our module based on
the list of components that are required and others factors. The product...
