“Professionalism for teachers is, displaying the fairest, most considerate, and most ethical way of fulfilling the duties of the teacher profession” (Charles, 2014, p.310). One of the main roles of teaching is to be a role model for their students. “Furthermore, professionalism aids in helping to achieve continuing success, attainment or organizational objectives, and lastly grants educators the ability to take pride in their work” (Silver and Media, 2014). Teacher’s can show professionalism through appearances, being able to maintain confidentiality, behaving professionally in public, classroom management, treating others with respect, communication skills, showing up on time, following procedures and being able to collaborate with other teachers.

“A teacher’s appearance plays a role in conveying professionalism”. Teachers should always make sure they are wearing clean clothes with no stains. Dressing conservatively is the key in expressing work ethics. It is also very important that teachers do not display facial piercings, bold tattoos and non-natural hair colors because it could cause students not to take your seriously. Dressing professionally can show that you have respect for yourself and respect for you career.

Teachers can also express professionalism by maintains confidentiality. Teachers have to deal with tons of personal student information in order to help their students reach his or her full potential. Parents and students need to trust teachers not to disclose any confidential information with other staff members who are not personally involved with that student.
