First of all, we take a close look at the background of Delta. Delta Electronics is the world’s
largest provider of switching power suppliers. This $4 billion company was founded in 1971 by
Bruce C.H. Cheng in the Neihu district, the north of downtown Taipei. It started out producing
electronic components for TV sets that is supplied to local companies. After 3 years, Delta
started to win business supplying foreign companies that had invested in Taiwanese TV and
electronics manufacturing facilities, such as RCA, Zenith, and Philips. In 1980, Delta’s annual
revenues were only $4.6 million, but the nascent PC industry with its modularized horizontal
production model gave the company the opportunity to ride an explosive growth curve by
focusing on PC power supplies, including power video-game consoles for Microsoft and Sony,

history. Delta’s focus on energy-saving products can be traced back to the time when it was first
established. Since that time, almost every product from Delta has emphasized the efficient use
of energy. By 2009, the energy-conversion efficiencies of Delta power supplies reached as high
as 96%, among the highest in the industry. Delta moved into solar-cell production by partnering
with Spectrolab, a pioneer in multi-junction solar cells for use in satellites and space applications.
As a demonstration project, Delta produced solar optoelectronic modules that were used as the
roof panels on the stadium for the 2009 World Games held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. This design
was claimed to be the largest-capacity solar-energy installation for a single sports facilities
anywhere. With the mission of providing innovative, clean, and efficient energy solutions, Delta
