REVIEW ROUGH DRAFT: Five Guys: Burgers and Fries.

As the door swings open the thick smell of seasoned ground beef hitting the grill surrounds you, instantly prompting you to develop a hunger that is only known to exist in civil war torn countries. The restaurant is void of any cheap thrills that one has come to expect from modern burger joints. There is no large cartoon cardboard cutout in the corner displaying toys that accompany the child’s hamburger, nor is there an indoor jungle-gym or ball-pit. The white and red checkered tile walls are adorned with framed newspaper clippings of the restaurants opening and favorable reviews from across the country. Two large soda machines sit in the back, finished wood chairs and tables are scattered throughout, filling the rest of the area. White 50-pound potato sacks are stacked neatly along the wall, a reminder to the customer that everything is fresh and made to order.

Directly behind the cashier, in the open, is the kitchen. There are no walls or partitions to shield the customer from seeing how the food is handled or prepared. In an era that has seen a drastic decline in the freshness of fast food, preparing meals in the open not only ensures transparency between the business and the patron, but forces strict sanitation practices to be upheld.

The kitchen is small, especially when compared to other fast food restaurants. There are no microwaves or heat-lamps, and the ever-present hum of commercial freezers is absent, as the ingredients are always fresh, never frozen. There is a constant buzz of red shirts as one employee places patties on the grill, another cuts up potatos to fry, and one fixes toppings as he packs the meals to-go.

The instant in which you dive in and begin to dissect the burger, it becomes apparent that you will never go to a drive thru again. You realize that every other fast food burger you have had before was absolute garbage, constructed hours...
