Jerry: Alcohol Dependence

Jerry like most people who drink in excess, never see that they have a problem. To them they are just having one or two to relax, or they just drink socially. In Jerry’s case even when his son pointed out how much he drank at one time, he still did not feel that there was a problem. In Jerry’s case he did not necessary grow up around he as when he was young due to religious beliefs he was not subject to it. While in college Jerry looked for his dad and found him living in with a much younger wife. His father never treated him as a son, but as a friend. This is where Jerry started drinking, as well while in college he pledged a fraternity, which drank much of the college life away. Jerry could out drink just about everyone and never really seem drunk, while the others would be passed out and vomiting. After college he went into the air force and became a fighter pilot where after training they would go to the bar and drink until it close it was said that he had could stamina, and could drink without seeming to be intoxicated. After getting out of the service he landed a job with a major airline, and when he would come home all he would do is drink. His drinking ended his marriage.

Behaviors

1) He denied that he had an alcohol problem. (substance dependence)

2) Starts drinking wine until the bottle is gone and then moves to Jack Daniels and drinks several drinks, and he really does not feel the effect.(substance abuse)

3) Drinks until he passes out and then he doesn’t remember anything from the night before. (substance abuse)

4) Jerry gets defensive and angry when someone talks to him about his drinking. (substance dependence)

5) He drinks when he thinks he is bored. (substance dependence)

6) When he had his physical for his FFA licenses he complained about memory loss. (substance abuse)

7) Due to obsessive drinking he had a stroke. (substance...
