Depression: Example

As there’s happiness in the lives of us, humans, there’s also its counterpart that lives in all of us at the same time. This other side is what we call “sadness”. But, sadness is a feeling that lives and goes. Just like happiness, it comes and hit a person hard though as fast as it comes, it goes away and once again leave that certain person in the middle of the smiles and the tears. Being happy and being sad depends on a person’s day or how his or her life has gone. It depends on what he or she experienced and what he or she had faced in that certain part of his or her day. Even in a minute or two, a person can actively switch from being happy and being sad. But what if that person succumbed into something that is even greater than the two said counterparts of each other? What if that person feels more than being alone? What if he or she feels worthless, useless, and at the same time, hopeless, and he or she just can’t seem to get this emotions out of his or her system that’s drowning him or her? Well, if a person gets himself or herself into something that is more than the normal and usual sadness, he or she just might be experiencing what we call as “Depression”.

Depression, according to Merriam Webster, is a serious medical condition in which a person feels very sad, hopeless, and unimportant and often is unable to live in a normal way. Depression also seem to increase the inactiveness of a person, and makes it difficult for a person to think or concentrate about anything at all. Gain or loss in appetite can also be a mark that a person is depressed. But most of all, those who are going through such condition has a tendency of having a greater or more than the usual allotted time when it comes to sleeping. Those who are depressed are said to have a tendency to sleep a lot.
