I am applying for a course within criminal investigation because of the area that I grew up in, as there has always been a large police influence and this influence has given me the passion to pursue a career that involves police work and also because I feel that I would benefit and succeed in this area. For a long time I have been looking to go to university, I wasn’t sure about the course I wanted to do until I started researching it in to great depth, as soon as I seen the opportunities that this course gave me I knew that my academic career needed to involve this course.

After looking at the course in detail there are certain modules that come up that I am very enthusiastic about, the first one being the Introduction to Criminology, this will allow me to have a greater understanding of different explanations of crime and criminal behaviour. Furthermore another module that I am looking forward to studying is Investigative Management and Leadership, this is because I know from previous experiences that when called upon I can be a leader.

In my A levels I am currently studying Law, which has furthered my interests in the field of criminal investigation and this has helped me choose the path I want my career to go down. Some of the skills I have practiced during my A level courses have helped me enhance such skills as essay writing, which would help when writing up reports. During my college life I have enjoyed many modules for example, during my Law AS studies we looked into police studies/powers I was very much enthusiastic about this unit as I enjoy nothing more than looking in detail and figuring out how certain things work and how they fall into place this unit gave me a far greater understanding of how the police work. Also in my AS year of college I studied Sociology, this again encouraged my interest and decision in wanting to go into the field of criminal investigation and policing studies.
