There are many facets that shape your life. For example, having to overcome roadblocks and many challenges. However, there is one particular incident that has made a great impact on my life. It was during the December school holidays in 2012, my family & I went to Sydney and climbed a bridge, not just any bridge but the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

What made this climb so special is the fact that I had to overcome my fear of heights. Acrophobia is defined as a fear of heights. Most people experience a degree of natural fear when exposed to heights, especially if there is little or no protection. Although my condition is mild, my parents were hesitant about my insistent to join them in the climb. On the other hand, my family members were most supportive and prepared to help me overcome it.

My journey for the expedition started 6 months before we left for our holiday. Every Sunday, we will set off to build up our physical stamina but more importantly to overcome my fear of heights. We scaled Bukit Timah Hill, Mount Faber and even the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia. We even attempted many high rise buildings including the iconic Marina Bay Sands overlooking the Singapore skyline, all with the intention of overcoming my fear of heights. When I first started, it was extremely overwhelming but slowly but surely my fear for heights seems much better and I was extremely pleased that my hard work was paid off eventually.

15 December 2012……..my climb at the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge! Upon reaching the Sydney Harbour Bridge, we were greeted warmly by a group of people that were our expedition guides. With warm smiles on their faces, they explained to us on the many uses of the safety equipment and how to remain safe when we were on the Bridge.
