Introduction
Organizations employ many different types of information systems. A computer-based system has many abilities; it performs high-speed computations, stores large amounts of information and allows access to vast amounts of information worldwide. An application program is designed to support a specific task or business process, each functioning department uses many of these programs. Information Systems (IS) are located everywhere inside organizations, as well as among organizations. Accounting, marketing and human resource are prime examples of organizational departments within a company or business.
Each department’s (IS) consists of data, which refers to events, activities, and transactions that are recorded. Information systems refer to data that is organized so they have meaning, value and knowledge that consist of information that have been organized and processed as they apply it to current business problems.
Accounting
Accounting application software performs the organizations accounting finances, which are repetitive and high volume. Each business transaction for example, a paycheck produced or a person hired produces data that must be captured. The system involves applying modern information technology (IT) resources to traditional methods necessary to provide financial information to organizations. The basic structure of the system includes three components, the input, the processing, and the output. The input devices include the running applications, and scanning devices for data entry, and are web enabled. The processing is achieved through the basic model of the double- entry accounting system that was invented many centuries ago.
