Part C: B

Part D: B

Part E: A

Part F: A

Part G: Triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) are the two main hormones produced by the thyroid. These hormones are responsible for regulating metabolism, regulating body heat, regulate tissue groth and development, and to maintain blood pressure.

Part H: An overactive thyroid would increase metabolism, body heat, and increase blood pressure, causing weight loss, sweating, and an elevated heart rate.

Part I: Thyroid stimulating hormone is a hormone that stimulates the thyroid to increase production of thyroid hormones. The anterior pituitary gland produces TSH.

Part J: TSH secretion is regulated by a negative feedback system. When there is too much thyroid hormone in the body, TSH decreases, causing a decrease in thyroid hormone levels. When there is too little thyroid hormone, TSH increases, causing an increase in thyroid hormone levels.

Part K: The thyroid gland would become overactive because immune system antibodies were activating its TSH receptors. This would lead to an increase in thyroid hormones.

Part L: Krista’s TSH level is low instead of high because the anterior pituitary gland is getting feedback that there is too much thyroid hormone in the body (due to immune system antibodies causing an increase in thyroid hormone production) and is limiting the amount of TSH released.

Part M: Hypothyroidism is when there are low levels of thyroid hormones in the body. This would cause an increase in TSH levels because of the feedback system.

Part N: Other tissues are unaffected because the thyroid uses iodine to produce hormones while other tissues and glands do not.
