1 Mr. Schultz would definitely have to be strong in planning. To come up with a goal you first have to plan. It would be hard to imagine a future for more stores opening without proper planning. A store manager will have to know about coffee. How can you run a coffee shop with no knowledge of making coffee? You can successfully. You will end up with lost employees who don’t know what to do just like the manager.

2 Scientific management would be useful because it will have people working smarter, not harder. Organizational behavior will help when it comes to hiring people for different positions. Quantitative approach will come into play when deciding what products to sell in certain areas. Some stores sell more of certain products so that will be the store to get more of that product and less of the one that don’t sell as often to save money. Systems approach will help everyone work together as a team. The less tension in a company, the smoother it runs.

3 The three trends and issues that the managers face would have to be workforce diversity, entrepreneurship and learning organizations. Workforce diversity, because Starbucks operates in more than 62 countries with over 19,000 stores which calls for a pretty diverse workforce. So the manager has to be well informed about the diverse backgrounds of the individuals in order to manage the workforce seamlessly. Entrepreneurship, because Starbucks has over 19000 stores in more than 62 different countries and in each country business market has become more competitive than before. So to ensure that the store survives in midst of the competition the manager has to know how to innovate and generate revenue by attracting more business. Learning Organization, because Starbucks is a big company with so many stores and this means that it continually keeps on growing and changing along as time changes and continues to evolve.
