Research Strategy Paper

For many people in the workplace or those attending school, there will be opportunities to broaden their knowledge of a topic or develop a solution to a complex problem or just to clarify to gain a better understanding about a subject. To accomplish this, researching of resources will become an important skill. How research is conducted, sources used, and information evaluated can have a major impact on the expanding knowledge of a particular topic and in writing that is clear, concise, and accurate regardless of the environment

Taking from a recent experience in my workplace, I dealt with a customer that showed interest in having his office space carpeted. I followed the standard procedures to have his space measured and estimated. The problem came to be with the type of carpet selected for his installation. The carpet selection was of the commercial type suitable for his office and designed to for a glued down installation. The problem is that what the customer wants to have installed and how he wants it installed conflict with each other. The product, designed for a direct glue installation, is not intended to for the installation method used for his current flooring. As is many times the case in retail, customers have to be educated on the specifics of the products they purchase and for that to happen research has to take place in some form. In doing research I would follow a basic path, gather information, validate resources and combine the information for presentation.

In some cases, it is simple enough to read the product label to get a general idea of how the product is used or the product’s capabilities and limitations. Other times a customer may want to use a product in way that it is not intended for or needs information on a specific method of use. In that situation, there are generally contact information resources that are available by phone or internet.
