WHY SAAS CLOUD BI COULD BE THE WAY FORWARD.

Abstract

In order to retain and gain increased competitive advantage, some organizations are utilizing Cloud Computing in conjunction with Business Intelligence (BI) software solutions. Advocates of the cloud believe that a partnership between the Cloud and BI will lead to increased organizational efficiency due to its ability to implement analytical tools while reducing technological cost and system complexities (Mircea, n.d.). This paper explores Cloud BI as an evolving technology, and how it further provides organizations the ability to operate with increased efficiencies effortlessly. This paper also examines the performance of corporations who have implemented cloud BI and what the outcome was. The research for this paper determined that increased BI and Cloud technology use has a positive correlation with increasing competitive advantage.

Introduction

Cloud computing is the ability for a third party to deliver massively scalable IT-enabled service to external customers via the use of the Internet while Business intelligence (BI) is the process of gathering data through the use of software, tools and methodologies and converting the data into meaningful information for users which helps organizations make better business decisions. Business intelligence is all about providing the right information to the right people at the right time, and cloud computing provides a lightweight, agile way to access BI applications. So the combination of Cloud computing and business intelligence also known as cloud BI or cloud business intelligence is when information like reports or dashboards is delivered in Software as a Service (SaaS means having a business software live on a remote machine and accessing it via the Internet) form or via a virtual network; the internet.
