Giving birth to a baby is the most beautiful thing that could ever happen to a woman. The realization that she has carried a baby inside her womb for nine months and is now able to hold that baby is one that brings much joy and wonder. To some a baby is a blessing, a start to a family and the start to a new life. However, to most a baby is a burden. Unplanned pregnancies are high in numbers and can be a challenge. Just the same teen pregnancies are high in numbers and challenging. With both situations come many questions and rash decisions. The only way to lower the rate of unplanned and teen pregnancies is to offer contraceptives. For females the safest form of contraception is the birth control pill. Condoms are an option however they do have a history of tearing and being ineffective. The plan b pill is also an option, however it does cause havoc on a females body. The birth control pill is the safest and most accurate way to ensure that a female whom is sexually active is safe from unwanted pregnancies.

In her article The Dangers Every Woman Needs to Know About Birth Control Pill, Donna Gates states, “If you’re a woman and haven’t gone through menopause yet, then it’s possible for you to get pregnant.” Her statement directly correlates with the issue at hand which is: the highest population having children are teenage girls from the ages 15 to 19. This age group is the furthest from menopause and thus the most susceptible to pregnancy. This age group is giving birth to 16 million babies. Of those 16 million, 3 million are conceived by mothers 15 and under (Teen Help). This is a worldwide statistic, and Gates does argue in her article that these numbers are increasingly high due to small developing countries.
