Chonawi Engineering Metal Works.

Charles the owner of the business with a grade certificate II and engineering craft course worked at different engineering firms both as trainee and skilled worker from 1989 to 1997. He was too annoyed by the supervisor and left ndirangu enterprise in nivasha we left the job where he was paid kshs6000 and decided to open his own business for greater exposure and self-fulfillment.

He formed a company name Chonawi as a sole proprietor located in kahawa wendani, along thika road-Nairobi in 1997 Naivasha. It started in 4m by 6m rented wooden workshop with some basic tools and equipment and some finance supported by him in purchasing raw materials and other fees and expenses. Initially there were only two people working in the firm, the owner himself and one unskilled worker as in a trainee.

The company began to be known by the local public and thereby increasing the demand of product chonawai made. Soon after the publicity getting higher one more skilled worker on a monthly salary of Kshs 5000 was appointed and the average income rose to kshs 25000 per month.

The reason behind quick upliftment of the business is that he himself promoted it by doing door to door marketing and with the help of personal selling. He used to visit construction site and customer location personally within and around nivasha town. Soon after the commencement of business chonawi experienced an upward trend in the business sales ranged from 50000 to 60000 per month. He appointed two more fundis and a secretary. The sales turnover started booming from 60000 to 70000 and so necessarily he moved to a more secure and storage workshop. The expenditure increased for servicing demand from nakuru about 50kms in one direction and Nairobi 100kms away in other direction. Then he moved to the outskirts of Nairobi in 2001 where wont three major tenders. The demand for electricity exceeded the supply and his doubled his bill from 3000 to 4000. His business revenue was...
