The culture of a workplace is important. It can dictate how you dress, speak, and take action. According to Baack (2012), “organizational behavior may be defined as the investigation of the behavioral factors that affect modern organizations…” The behavior can come in different forms. It can be seen in the form of an observable artifact or the ethical practices of an organization. The ethical practices of an organization, whether the employees follow it or not, can tell a lot about that organization. According to Mills (2013), organization culture is “shaped and influenced by people involved in the organization.” The people in the organization should be able to influence and shape their workplace and the organization should be able to shift as time shifts.

In the past, I used to work for a large bank called Washington Mutual. They are now a part of Chase Bank, owned by J.P. Morgan. At the time, before they were bought out, their logo was their name written in blue with a yellow box, usually on top of the name, with the letter W in the same blue as the written out name. An observable artifact of most Washington Mutal branches was the double doors to get into the branch. A customer walked through one door and went walked through another door to get inside. This was a security measure that Washington Mutual had when they first opened in California. In between the two doors was a metal detector to detect for weapons. Usually, one person at a time was allowed to go through the door. On the other hand, multiple people can leave using the Exit door. There was a guard who was hired to press the button on a remote to let people in the branch once they had gone through the metal detector.
