Abstract
Strategic Management is the groundwork for a company’s vision and allows a company to be ready to capitalize on opportunities. Strategic management is a process of evaluating a company’s mission, establishing the company’s design, developing the company’s organization and relationships, and guiding the company’s plan to execution to ensure that the management is consistent with the company’s strategy. Strategic management also enhances or protects the company’s interests and defines the way a company wants to expand or focus. Strategic management if often overlooked and should be the first step in defining a company's core values, mission, and product focus. The first case of strategic business management is on the Berendsen Group which is a focused European textile maintenance business with leading positions in most of the countries in which it operates. As a focused business Berendsen is able to mobilise is resources to drive its strategies in its core area of expertise. For instance, Berendsen acquired the washroom activities of ISS in Denmark, Sweden and Norway for £34 million)in cash, paid from existing resources. Berendsen has also entered into a strategic partnership agreement with ISS under which it will obtain access to the ISS customer base for its portfolio of washroom products and become the preferred supplier of workwear to the catering business of ISS while ISS will provide cleaning and catering services to all Berendsen sites in the in the Nordic region. The transaction took place on 29 December 2010 and is expected to be earnings enhancing in 2011. Berendsen acquired ISS' laundry and mat businesses in the Nordic region in 2010.
