Leisure and Aging

As I reach age 30, I hope to be doing exactly the same leisure activities that I am doing now. These activities are practical at age 30 and even beyond that. The only thing that can hold me back from doing these leisure activities often would be finding the time between work and possibly having a family. Right now I have school and work so I know what it’s like to be busy and trying to find time for my leisure activities. My leisure activities are important to me and I hope to be continuing with them past age 30.

By the time I’m 30 I plan to still be riding dirt bikes. It is something that I enjoy a lot and even though it can be physically demanding, I can still see myself being perfectly able to do what I do now on a dirt bike. Things may hurt a tiny bit more and be a little more sore after riding but I know it’s something that I want to do for a long time. When I go dirt bike riding, I normally go with my dad and his friends. My dad is 57 and he rides as well as I do and probably even better. The age of my dad’s friends range from their late 40’s to early 60’s. We even have a guy that is 74 that rides with us. It’s pretty amazing what he can do at that age. He doesn’t lag behind us at all and most of the time he doesn’t even want to stop and take a break. He just likes to keep riding. In the video “Kick the Can”, they talk about being too old to do the things they did when they were a kid. So seeing my dad and his friends riding at their ages is a similar situation. Some people could scoff at an older person that tells them that they ride dirt bikes. They would probably be under the impression that they probably don’t ride well or go on easy trails. But knowing what my dad and his friends go on and how they ride blows that perception out of the water. It gives me a lot of motivation to keep riding. It gives me a lot of hope as well that I will still be able to ride at that age. I definitely know that I will handle the aging process well when...
