Alternate Assignment: Unit 1

As we kick off the start to what will be a great and knowledgeable class session, I had the pleasure of being introduced to our professor Ritu Sharma. Her expectations for this course are not unachievable, but set rather high as should the students’ own standards as well. As the semester unfolds, we have quite a big workload ahead of us in these ten units. The resources offered at Kaplan University and their live tutoring and writing center will be very beneficial in my path to academic success. I had read through the “Learning Activities” pages twice as I had forgotten the importance of having an audience as opposed to just having “readers”.

The due dates every Tuesday night are not impossible. Although professional writing may be new to me, procrastination is not. Professional writing and procrastination are two areas I need to improve upon and I have no doubts that participation in this course will help me in my journey as I better my life with a college degree. As I write this alternate assignment, I have to remind myself to proof read and practice using professional language instead of “text talk”. In my work life and lifestyle, texting has replaced emailing more than it was four or five years ago. My plan is to work hard and overcome any obstacles that prevent me from becoming a better writer. I will continue to bring up my weaknesses and transform them into strengths so I can become a successful writer not only while in school, but for the rest of my life.
