The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a common virus that is spread through sexual contact. It is the most common sexually transmitted infection spread amongst youth in the United States. There are about thirty to forty types of HPV that can affect the genital area and according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there are about six million new cases of HPV infection in the United States each year. Most HPV cases will clear up on their own, but for some types of HPV infections there may be serious consequences such as cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancers.
