There are two types of genetic drift. One being the bottleneck effect and the other being the founder effect. The BOTTLENECK EFFECT. Genetic drift caused by bottlenecking may have been important in the early evolution of human populations when disasters decimated tribes. The gene lake of each surviving population may have been, just by chance, fairly unlike from that of the larger population that predated the catastrophe. The FOUNDER EFFECT refers to the loss of genetic variation when a new collection is established by a very small number of individuals from a larger population. In humans, founder effects can arise from cultural isolation, and inevitably, endogamy population is often very small, so it expressions increased sensitivity to genetic drift, an increase in inbreeding, and relatively small genetic variation. An example of a bottleneck effect is having a large population of Soldiers at war. The Soldier become attacked by the enemy, and we slowly lose 95% of our Soldiers to that attack. Once that war is over and it is safe to drop more soldier into that location, we can then get our numbers back up. As for founder effect I would say it like a female boxer having babies. She has a liter of 10, and out of that 10 all the puppies make and is able to be sold to the customers. The mother boxer says exactly where she is and the baby puppies are all in different small groups around the world. One they become order they will mate and have babies of their own.
