The impact of movie policy in India

India Goverment provide many conveniences in policy to develop film industry, for example, they have entertainment tax exemption and 100% foreign direct investment and co-production treaties in policies. There three main points about the impact of movie policy to society:

1. Productivity

India produce so many films every year. In 2006 India is the No.1 of the number of feature films produced, and the actual number of films produced in 2006 is 1091. It’s two times more than the second country America, the number of feature films produced of America is 485 in 2006. So, even several years ago in 2006, India’s film productivity is better than many western developed countries.

And the number of films produced of India from 2003 till 2012 is keep increasing during in the long time. According to those data, India film industry has good productivity .

2. Revenue

Flexible policies and good productivity can bring a lot of revenue. To make a example by compare Bollywood with Hollywood, two famous film produce companies in India and the US, we can found Bollywood get considerable revenue domestically because of policies.

Because Bollywood have entertainment tax exemption in India, the cost to produce a film is lower than Hollywood, including the production cost and marketing cost. Then tickets price they sold to public can be cheaper in India that more people can afford. Lower cost, higher sold tickets number, that’s why Bollywood make considerable revenue domestically. On the other hand, India film exporting to international also make great revenue. In the revenue distribution chart of Bollywood, we can see that Bollywood’s films export take 9% in total. India’s film industry make great revenue to domestic economic. On the other hand, the lower tickets price can bring public a good chance to feel film culture and develop their life quality.
