In the community that I live in there is a mixed amount of ethnic groups that live here. I live in a town call El Cajon, which is part of the city of San Diego. Being so close to the Mexican border there is a large amount of Mexican Americans, Arab Americans, and like myself there are African Americans. We all seem to dress the same, but each group does have similarity as well as differences that distinguish one from another. African Americans have a darker color skin and speak English, Mexican Americans speaks the native language which is Spanish but they also have adapted to speaking English in settings like school and in the work place. Their skin is light in color and they do not concern themselves as being white or black. And then you have the Arab Americans who are also light in skin color and speak Arabic as well as English.
In my community you have leaders that tend to treat people like myself who are African Americans with respect and dignity, and there are also have the some leader that treat other ethnic groups with the same respect and dignity. But then there is that small amounts of leaders that have no compassion or respect for any ethnic group but their own. In my community we do have leaders that have little to no compassion towards the Mexicans or Arabs. The reason being is because the Mexicans come over to the border into the United States illegally, where as the Arabs comes over to visit family member and decides to stay, and then they want the some rights and opportunities as American citizens that have live and worked here all of their lives. The other members that are a part of my community treat people like me with some respect to a degree. They do not just come right out and tell you how they feel, but I can see it by how they look at me and by how they sometimes address me.
