Are our students today finally better than they are in 2007? June Ramli, who in 2007 reported in her article entitled “Making of The Creative Student” that our students are greatly left behind as compared academically to students of our neighboring region, Singapore. This essay endeavors to reflect upon the differences of students between 2007 and 2014 after the implementation of National Education Blueprint.

Confidence

Confidence is an attribute that comes from within, it is an acceptance of own wellbeing of their body and soul thus creating individual’s uniqueness. It could also be defined as “believing in one’s own faith and ability to succeed at something”. Through our reflection, 3 out of 5 of us agree that students have indeed improved in this aspect. Signs of students who lacks of confidence are usually afraid to speak up and tend to participate less in classes. While these attributes may be associated with past bad experience such as punishment, scolding or humiliation which leads to the loss of confidence. To tackle this issue, Malaysia government are implementing strategies to empower the confidence level of student. The core strategies includes empowering on student’s character, resilience, morals, disciplinary aspects as well as value. (Teo, 2009) In order to produce a nation with skillful workforce, education ministry understands it is crucial to pay attention to these aspects in order for the nation to attain a well-developed human capital.

Believe you can and you’re halfway there, a positive mind set and persistence attitude is key to success.
