In our society, science plays a pivotal role. Not only does science help us investigate and understand the unknown, it also helps us better our lives on a regular basis. Ever since people have been able to ask questions, there have been others trying to answer them. With the help of science, many major breakthroughs have taken place that better the world we live in. Anything from breakthroughs in the medical field such as antibacterial soap, to telecommunications and the internet have been made possible using science. With great ideas like these, our society has only grown for the better.

Being able to study our environment helps us solve complex problems in nature, which has led to significant enhancements in quality of life. The discovery of combustion using fossil fuels has transformed transportation, and even as amazing as that was we are already in place to move on to electricity as a common place for mass transportation. Also, studying the natural world has helped create several advancements in medicines, leading to cures for diseases and therapies for ailments. To this day we are still discovering new elements and materials by studying our world, which will hopefully only continue to increase our quality of life.

One of my biggest qualms within the scientific community is science not being understood in a more widespread manner. The fact that people seem to be ignorant about various simple scientific ideas is a problem in our society. To go along with that, politicians utilizing science and manipulating it for their own gain is an annoyance as well. This doesn't particularly have to do with the scientific community, but their responses or lack there of leave something to be desired.

Realistically, my life itself seems worthy of noting in this discussion. I would say that before major scientific discovery, I had a severely lower chance of living through birth, let alone my mother living through it. Also, as I grew up, the opportunity to have the...
