Rise in Teen Smoking

A world that is dominated by smoking, is a world on a path to destruction. The mile-high tidal wave of smoking has been sweeping across this world for many generations. That same wave is now starting to creep its way into the hands of teenagers. Smoking among Teens has started to significantly increase throughout the U.S. Every day when you walk out your house you are most likely to see a person under 18 and often someone who is not even old enough to drive, smoking to their hearts content. Each day in the United States, more than 3800 youth aged 18 years or younger smoke their first cigarette, and an additional 2100 youth and young adults become daily cigarette smokers. As smoking in teens elevate to a concerning level, many teens will die from smoke related illnesses before they even turn 18. The rise in smoking among youths is an issue threatening the future of our world.

When did this world become so off track, that smoking Is now considered “cool” among teens? Teens today believe that if they smoke it will raise their social class at school and sometimes even at work. Peer-pressure is one of the many factors causing smoking among teens to rise. Schools around the U.S. are the main hub for teen smoking. Teens go through school every day getting pressured by a friend or group to smoke. Many kids these days don’t know that all it takes is one time and you can become addicted. Smoking in this day in age is also considered an “Adult thing” to do, which leads teens to smoke, because what’s cooler than doing something that’s mainly for adults. Teens today are exposed to smoking, by watching TV, at school, in stores and really anyplace you can think of. One of the main reasons that influence teen smoking is the parents of the teens. Parents who don’t set strong restrictions against smoking are most likely to have a kid that smokes than parents who do set strong restrictions.
