Writing horror and thriller novels, Daphne du Maurier invites an audience and keeps them captivated. Novels written in such detail you feel as if you’re a part of the story. Du Maurier’s writing style is very modern as she intrigues the reader with her play on words; her elaborately explained violent scenes, and just the overall theme of whichever story you read. One story in particular, just takes all your attention, making it hard to stop reading. This story rejuvenating readers with a fresh style as it holds your imagination in its hand, twirling and twirling keeping you there. The Birds she named it, a reference to the Cold War. Du Maurer entwined her present and imagination into one creating a marvelous story; a story in which only a great mind can conjure up.

“Stumbling into their room, Nat felt the beating of wings about him in the darkness. The window was wide open. Through it came the birds, hitting first the ceiling and the walls, then swerving in mid-flight and turning to the children in their beds.” While the story very titillating, one can help but notice how detailed the story is. They push you to read in between the lines, understanding a deeper meaning. A very frightening, yet vivid scene in the novel was when the children got attacked by the birds who mysteriously found their way into the room. The details go so in depth that you can picture the scene happening before your eyes; maybe even imagine yourself in the room. Du Maurer so intensely captures the moment by displaying Nat’s instant reaction to help his children, and even going as far as to include his wife’s thoughts as well.
