Typical patterns of emerging technologies are characterized by uncertainty, high risks and the potential to not see a return on the investment immediately, which make it a risky and complex process. In today’s world it is becoming increasingly challenging to keep up with the changing demands and changing technological advances in society. The AR market is one filled with uncertainty, high risks with the large amount of capital that is being invested, and with large investments come large uncertainty. Emerging technologies must think about their customer selection, who do I want to serve and who do I not want to serve? Currently, AR technology is more focused on the business consumer then the everyday consumer. Emerging technologies also must be prepared to invest a lot of their capital on not only creating the product but helping the consumer understand the product. It is easy to say, “Imagine looking at your wrist and seeing a smartwatch – only you’re not wearing a watch,” however, it’s another for the everyday consumer to picture that and try and understand why they need that when they have the physical watch itself? Emerging technologies must create value and show people the benefits to why they need to invest in their product.

I believe that AR technology is a breakthrough innovation project, because it is establishing a new product that is created in a new market. AR technology is referred to as “a revolutionary change firms, markets and industries, which provide substantially higher customer benefits relative to current products in the industry.” And I believe that this is exactly what AR technology is doing.
