Laborem Excerens Reflection
After reading the encyclical, Laborem Excerens, I have come to realize the value of the working man. It never occurred to me exactly how important it is for people to work and have opportunities to better themselves makes on a society. My career and dream job that I would like to pursue is to become an International lawyer. This job will bring meaning to my life because it will combine many of the things that I enjoy, such as foreign language, traveling, and also helping others in their legal endeavors. This is an important aspect of the job because I would one day like to travel and see new places and speak multiple languages while helping companies with their legal needs.
After reading the encyclical I have come to realize that my career can be somewhat reshaped. I have for a long time dreamt of being a lawyer, and later became fascinated with other cultures and languages. It later became a goal of mine to learn at least 5 during different languages fluently during my lifetime. I did not consider the service aspect of my work or the fact that there are actually in turn many ways that I could possibly help the world around me through my work. The financial aspect of the career is a help but it could also be a way for me to give back to society and also use my knowledge of law to help others who need help to improve the society that we live in.
My career that I plan to pursue fits into the creative activity of God because, God considers many jobs as acceptable careers as long as they work heartily, as serving the lord and not men, knowing that from the Lord we will receive the inheritance as our reward (LE #55). My work could help people and those around me in the many countries that I am involved. I could advocate and fight for those who need assistance and try to give help for those who are not receiving it. Work is for the society, not just for the single person because work helps...
