Extra Credit: Conceived in Liberty Volume II

I found the book Conceived in Liberty Volume II very interesting. I have never seen the development of every colony before the Revolutionary War. Dr. Murray Rothbard illustrated each of the Thirteen Colonies very clearly. I learned that every colony has its own characteristics.

North America was controlled by three big empires. First, France took control of Canada. Second, Britain took control of the American Colonies. Finally, Spain took control of Mexico. Britain wanted to take possession of the entire North American continent. This ambitious plan led Britain to have wars against France and Spain. Britain couldn’t get possession of Canada and Mexico.

The Thirteen Colonies were founded by the British Empire. I also found it very important that each colony had different purposes. Some were for religious freedom for Puritans, Catholics and Separatists. Others were founded to do trades and profit. Every colony was unique and left history in the U.S.

Britain took control over the Thirteen Colonies. It started with Virginia Colony, founded in 1607, and ended with Georgia, founded in 1732.

First, Virginia Colony was founded by The London Company in 1607. The first purpose of founding Jamestown, Virginia was to make money. This port was used as a trading center. The second reason to found Jamestown was to convert the natives to Christianity.

Second, Massachusetts was founded in 1620 by Puritans. As I was reading about this colony, I asked myself, “Why did Puritans found this colony instead of England?” Later in that section, it explained that the Puritans came over to America to escape from British rule. The Puritans believed that everything should be ruled by the people and not by the crown. They also believed in democracy.

Third, New Hampshire was founded by John Wheelwright in 1623. The name of this colony comes from England. John lived in Hampshire County.
