What problems can you identify with the orientation activities experienced by Irene?

The problems that can be identified in the orientation activities experienced by Irene include the fact that the majority of the employees didn’t even know she was starting that day. Additionally, nothing was explained to her in a clear manner. Irene was not showed around and therefore got lost multiple times which caused more time to be wasted. When she finally found where she was supposed to be the person she was looking for was unavailable and more time was then wasted disclosing unnecessary information to her. The company is clearly disorganized and not very productive.

How would you make changes in the orientation process? What changes would you make?

I would make changes in the orientation process by providing as much information to the new employee as possible prior to them even coming into work. I would make sure that everyone who needed to be aware of their arrival was aware. The first thing that I would do upon their arrival would be to show them around and explain what is going on as well as introduce them to their colleagues.
