Introducion

Hey there!

Firstly, you should know how lucky you are to be given the opportunity to go and study in The Netherlands – your going to love it! I didn’t have anyone (besides Google which is useful to an extent) to tell me much before I came here and I really wish I did. So that’s why I am here. I want to get you prepared for the best time of your life and give you a heads up on some differences between the Canadian and Dutch!

Before I do that though I want to share with you some of my most memorable experiences in The Netherlands and some things I think you need to do to get the most out of this wonderful experience.

You are going to need a bike. As soon as you get into town start asking around and go the some of the many bike shops. As Canadians we tend to be a bit more materialistic and always wanting the new and trendiest. I am telling you this now DO NOT buy the most expensive bike they have! Buy a second hand bike and a really good lock (or two)! Chances are your bike or a friend you make along the way will have their bike stolen. A friend I met her has had hers stolen 3 times – 3 times!! So far warning don’t get to attached and lock it up well!

I also had my bike stolen- my dad bought me it for me when he was here – so I was very sad. It was my fault though I was lazy and didn’t lock it well because I was just going into the store for a ‘few’ minutes. First lesson learned; even if you are running into the store for one thing lock your darn bike! The second lesson I learned was don’t give up. I actually found my bike parked outside the casino just down the road minutes later!

Once you have a bike you can officially start all of your many adventures. I was in a Dutch Culture and Economics...
