America’s War on Sex

My early opinion of the War on Sex was one that I believed we were winning. After reading this book, I was not so sure. The way that the United States makes progressive gains in the industry of sex is slim to none. In Marty Klein’s America’s War on Sex I was appalled. I could not believe some of the information that I had read. However, I was interested while reading this book, but at times I found the material confusing. America’s War on Sex is eye opening and has made me want to support the effort to make it less of a hidden subject and more of a subject that is taught about and talked about, so that American’s can become more aware. The war on sex isn’t just one that is waged between teachers and students, nor parents and kids, it’s one that is the people versus politics. Politics plays a large role in how we as people view sex, however, media portrayal of many sexual subjects causes a stir among the population as well. I believe that in order to win the War on Sex, we as people need to make others aware, spread the word, and end this silence. Sex isn’t silent, so why are we?

What I learned;

Technology has played a big role in the War on Sex. On page 106 I learned that forms of nudity in around 1452 were published on the printing press and became more popular than the bible had! However, at this time State and Religion were in command and had banned publications of this type from being made or sold. What was learned from 1452? Sex sells. I also learned that technology has really been hand in hand with sex and the sex market for example Sony first came out with tapes in which Marty Klein explains how expensive these were, what was incredible, was that he also states that for the first year, they were solely used to record porn so that people could watch it in private! Now, for a world so hidden from sex, that actually boggles my mind! How is it that America wants to portray ourselves as this “abstinence loving, what is sex?” Type of...
