In this paper I will examine and evaluate the creation of U.S. Laws. Included will be my opinion as to what should or should not be a law and what should be considered when creating laws.

The laws in the United States have many different definitions, and the history and creation of those laws from a multitude of sources. The most powerful law of the land is the U.S. Constitution. This has been amended, litigated, interpreted for a few hundred years, but has remained the framework for all the other law in our country.

There are fifty states united under a central government, we have laws which are peculiar to each state. And federal law which covers the entire country. The states have the freedom to establish their own set of laws as it deems necessary. But even though they make their own law it must comply with federal laws and the constitution. As an example you could not pass a law taking away the right for women to vote. The law would be declared unconstitutional and would not be enforceable. In each state you have laws governing most every city, town, and county.

States in America are separate sovereigns with separate constitutions and they have the power to govern themselves and long as the laws are not preempted by the federal Constitution. States have similar laws, but they can be diverse in other areas.

The federal law is limited to a point. They deal with subjects such as regulating commerce between states, conflicts between states, and federal crimes examples would be kidnapping and smuggling contraband into the country. The states have laws covering everything from what age you can drink to elections and how they are held. Every state is different they are diverse and unique as their citizens.

The laws in the United States are based on the common law tradition adopted from the English system. Although legislative bodies pass the laws and puts them on the books the courts hear disputes and rulings are adopted for the law. Lawsuits are filed and...
