Each video highlights different aspects of public health efforts to address the threat of infectious diseases. Please note in what ways the public health approaches provide protection and in what ways other issues may arise when these methods are applied.

1. Guinea, West Africa: Meliandou Village

a. Big tree with lots of bats

c. Bats: carry deadly virus

i. Diarrhea and stop eating then he died

ii. Sister died 9 days later

iii. Wife had a miscarriage and died

iv. Father went crazy “the village has killed me”

v. Women who helped lean the house also died

2. Government sent people to test samples/see whats going on:

g. Found a teenager

h. They thought it was hemorrhagic fever

i. They found it to be ebola

j. Govt of guinea had no idea how to respond

3. Doctors without borders:

k. Set up hospital in town of gegedu

l. Key to stopping ebola:

vi. Isolate sick people

vii. Monitor sick people

viii. And bury dead sick people

4. WHO: World health organization

m. They didn’t know how complex ebola was

n. They left it to Guinea + doctors without borders

o. WHO people not really at the level of the job

q. Counties take the lead, WHO just suggests advice
