Capu“let” Juliet love Romeo

The great and powerful story known by many all over the world, Romeo and Juliet, written by a marvelous play writer, William Shakespeare, has impacted this world gigantically. This play has been performed the most out of all the plays over the span of about 400 years. The perfect tragedy that hooks in their audience with love and violence has inspired many other artists to recreate their own version of Shakespeare’s famous play. Romeo and Juliet, two star-crossed lovers who had fate and hatred work against them and have their story end in tragedy and despair. Act II scene ii in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is very alike to the song “Love Story” by Taylor Swift because they both include that something is keeping them apart, and that Juliet would do anything to be with Romeo.

To begin, the two stories include something that is keeping Romeo and Juliet apart. In Act II scene ii Juliet explains “‘Tis but thy name that is my enemy… And for that name which is no part of thee.” Taylor Swift in “Love Story” sings, “And my daddy said “Stay away from Juliet”... Romeo, save me, they try to tell me how to feel.” In Shakespeare’s Juliet is saying that Romeo’s family is an enemy to her own but it’s just and name and has no effect on Romeo’s personality. Swift is saying that her family is telling her to stay away from Romeo. In both cases Juliet is dealing with someone interfering with her relationship with Romeo. Even though these stories are 400 years apart it still can relate to today. People still have this idea of obeying their family last name and have their last name go on as new generations come along. The idea of immortality plays its role here as well, People are also afraid to go against their parents and tell them how they really feel because they fear the rejection that they might receive and other consequences that can be made afterwards.
