Project Option 1
Part 1: I'm Looking Over
Exercise 1:
Minnesota is a more northern state with a higher elevation. These two factors prompt the habitat to produce more chilly climates regularly, as well as a lower population of herbivores. This climate reaches less than 0O C frequently and reaches above 32O C briefly. This climate has a large variety of temperatures, but lower temperatures are more common. There is also a smaller amount of precipitation, only 66-76 cm yearly. North Carolina, on the other hand, has a more central location in the United States with a lower elevation. This leads to a more mild climate and a constant population of herbivores throughout the year. This climate has more precipitation than Minnesota, and also more than twice the amount of days above 32O C. The ranges of temperature here is slightly more compact.
Part 2: Unlucky Clover
Exercise 2:
With these two genes separate, they basically form a safety valve that requires an extra action to take place in order to activate the cyanide.
As said in the paragraph, herbivores may eat this leaf. With them eating the leaf the herbivore destroys the membranes combining the two products to form cyanide. Also, the plant can be damaged by freezing. Freezing causes the cell’s membranes to rupture, which also would combine the two elements into cyanide.
The cyanide produced helps aide in defense from organisms attempting to eat the plant. The cyanide released may be a disadvantage in the fact that it may kill off some organs of the cell like the reproductive organs, causing the plant to decrease fertility.
The stripes are similar to colors on animals in the rainforest. The colors let predators know to stay away as they are poisonous. The stripes do the same.
These results indicate that a snail only eats plain leaves. It also only looks for stripes to tell it whether or not to eat the leaves because the leaf that was painted striped was still not eaten.
Exercise 3:
The amount of...
