Lecture 6: Understanding Yourself --- Enneagram of Personality

Brief Content of Lecture 6

This lecture was on the October 10, 2014. It talks about the enneagram which is a circle inscribed by nine points. The nine points stand for nine distinctive personality styles. (The Good Person, The Loving Person, The Effective Person, The Original Person, The Wise Person, The Loyal Person, The Joyful Person, The Powerful Person, The Peaceful Person).

Reflections

This is not the first time for me to listen to speech that talking about the enneagram. However, this is the first time that I can reallyre understand why we need to understand and learn more about the enneagram. In the past, I just focus on my own type of personality, which is type 1, The Good Person. And then I seldom spend time thinking about my own personality other than knowing which type I am in the nine distinctive personality styles. However, in this lecture, I can really spend time to think about what kind of person I am.

During the lecture, I tried to observe how a person behave in trailer of different films. I tried to use the knowledge I learnt in the lecture immediately, to distinguish what kind of person is he. For example, I tried to distinguish the main character in the film ‘The Maze Runner’. I really enjoy the time I spent for looking deeply on the main characters to revise for all theories that I learnt in the lecture. And this is probably the best way for me to understand all theories included in the lecture.

Other than learning through different trailers, I really enjoyed the process that I tried asking myself who I am and how much I know about myself. I can remember that at the beginning of the lecture, the speaker showed us some Chinese sayings such as ‘Steal a needle when you are a child; you will...
