Write and present a simple business plan:
Introduction
1. A business plan is a sales tool or a convincing argument to funders or investors.
2. Business plans are there to sharpen your own thinking by:
Understand the idea behind the organization
Ensure that the project has been fully worked out
Check that the organization is being realistic
Ensure that the organization has thought about possible risk
Check that the organization has the capacity to deliver
Understand the longer-term picture
3. A business plan should be an operating guide for the organization once you have started,
and will function as a monitoring and evaluation tool to see whether objectives have been
met.
Many formats for business plans exist. They contain similar material. There is not one
“right” way or a “wrong” way – just the format that best describes your particular business
idea. Choose the components of a business plan that will best describe your business idea,
and show that you have really considered all the issues seriously.
Do not include information that is irrelevant to your business idea just because someone else
has used it. Make sure that all information is appropriate.
Tips for a Winning Business Plan
A business plan must be clear, concise and professional looking. Presentation is vital
because the business plan speaks for you and your future business. Pay particular
attention to writing style, grammar and spelling in the document, and seek the
assistance of someone with good report writing skills rather than have a document
that may create an impression of non-professionalism.
Remember that investors get hundreds of proposals – make sure yours is interesting
and easy to read.
A business plan must convey your enthusiasm and passion for the proposed venture,
but still be professional in tone.
Oral presentations should be well-structured and formal. Don’t waste time and be
aware of your audiences’ responses....
